I’M HEIDI GELLER, NON-PROFIT EFFECTIVENESS CONSULTANT

I’m a People Management Consultant dedicated to helping nonprofits thrive as they fulfill their mission to help heal our broken world.

Nonprofits serve a vital role in our community.  They help heal what is broken, assist those most in need, and bring sparks of joy, faith, and hope to all of us.  The truth is that smart, resourceful, and creative nonprofit leaders get more done with less than many in the for-profit world. Why?  Because they  learned how to thrive with limited resources.

When working with a nonprofit, I use a structured interview and strength assessments to help the manager and nonprofit leadership team and individual manager understand the manager’s natural proclivity to being a manager.  No job is right for everyone, and sometimes high performing team members are promoted to a management job that is not well suited for their skills and talents.  I am certified in both the DISC and Birkman strength and communication assessments.

Teams who don’t trust each other are always ineffective. Exceptional managers build trust with empathetic, honest, and candid communication.  I teach and model effective communication skills in challenging real life situations as I coach non profit leaders and managers how to build trust between and among team members.

Great managers are friendly with their teams, but rarely true friends.  The power dynamics of the relationship inevitably get in the way.  I show leaders and managers how to engage with their team in an authentic manner that creates a culture of honesty, hard work, and commitment to the mission. Most importantly, I help managers build teams with a fierce focus on accomplishing team goals on target and on time.

Through small group and individual coaching programs, I offer guidance in communication and management skills, strengths assessments (certified in DiSC and Birkman), and team-building workshops. My work empowers managers to build strong, collaborative relationships that drive both personal and organizational growth

My Journey to Supporting Nonprofit Leaders

I love empowering and helping people grow into their full potential, creating a high performing team that cares for each other as they focus on their common mission , and witnessing the real-world impact of my work. I am determined not only to serve the people but to help nonprofits. I want to support the people who dedicate their lives to these missions.

Working for nonprofits taught me so much, but it also opened my eyes to the challenges. I saw passionate, hardworking professionals navigating limited budgets, growing teams, and immense expectations, often with little guidance.

Too often, managers were promoted without the proper training or support, leading to burnout, disengaged teams, and even turnover. I saw how much potential was lost simply because organizations couldn’t invest in their managers the way they wanted to.

That’s why I created The People Leadership Path. After losing my mom and caring for aging parents, I felt called to focus on work that aligned deeply with my purpose. Supporting nonprofit leaders became my way of giving back to a sector that shaped so much of my life and career.

What makes my work so impactful is my ability to truly meet people where they are. I take the time to understand their challenges. It’s about creating a space where managers feel seen, supported, and empowered to grow—not just as leaders but as individuals.

Helping nonprofit managers thrive is my passion, because when leaders feel supported and teams are aligned, the impact on the mission—and the world—is extraordinary.
